Surgical Options After Breast Imlant Removal or Exchange

Richard DeSplinter, MD

In considering explantation of breast implants, four surgical options exist. These include explantation alone, explantation alone with mastopexy, an exchange of implants, and an exchange of implants with mastopexy. In this study, the authors reviewed the course of 211 operations to determine the reasons for initial explantation and the surgical option chosen from those mentioned above. Demographic data regarding the patient population and the implants encountered and employed were gathered and analyzed. Technical details and recommendations regarding the surgery including various mastopexy methods will be discussed.
