Unique Uses of Fibrin Glues In Clinical Practice

Gerald F. Conner, MD and Seth R Thaller, M.D.

Fibrin sealants, which are derived from human plasma, are surgical haemostatic agents that produce the final steps in the coagulation pathway that results in the formation of a stable fibrin clot. They are characterized by their biocompatibility and biodegradable properties. The purpose of this study is to discuses the advantages of fibrin sealants in a variety of surgical settings. We will briefly describe the pathophysiology and the role that fibrin sealants play in the overall wound healing process. In summary fibrin sealants have a number of advantages in clinical practice.
