Plastic Surgery has a long history, stretching back hundreds of years. As time has passed, the public perception of plastic surgery has evolved along with changing socioeconomic values, the practitioners in the field, as well as with advances in medical technology. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the evolving image of the healing art that has come to be called “Plastic Surgery”, and study the challenges that its practitioners face as they move into the future.
