Lecture: Reinnervating Muscle: The Fantastic Voyage
Objective(s): Peripheral nerve injuries can be devastating because they result in sensory and motor deficits. These deficits can significantly impact a patient’s functional outcome and potentially even their ability to perform normal activities of daily living. In order to enhance outcomes following peripheral nerve injury, or neurovascular muscle transfer, the functional recovery of the muscle must be optimized. In this lecture, we will review the mechanisms responsible for force deficits following peripheral nerve injury and repair, physiologic responses and adaptations of the peripheral nerve and muscles to this injury, and potential
