Submission Guidelines:

  1. Author Qualifications

Primary authorship for all paper and poster abstracts must be by a plastic surgeon/resident/medical student. Submissions from staff writers or company writing pools will not be allowed. All authors are required to disclose all relevant financial relationships or affiliations with pharmaceutical companies, biomedical device manufacturers or other corporations whose products or services are related to the subject matter of the presentation topic.

All correspondence is through email, you must provide valid/reliable email addresses. If your email is going to change between now and October, 2016 you must notify mbogucki@plasticsurgery.org of the new email address. Abstracts submitted without a valid email address will be removed from the system and not eligible for presentation.

ASPS welcomes paper and poster submissions from our international members and colleagues as part of the Plastic Surgery 2016 Scientific Program.

  2. Abstract Qualifications

Material presented must be original*. No portion of abstracts submitted can be from previously published material, in any publication, in either print or online mediums. If you submit your full-manuscript for possible publication in any Journal, it cannot be published before your accepted abstract podium presentation. To be safe, request that your article not be published before October 1, 2016. The fully published version of your manuscript must cite, acknowledge, and referenced the abstract published in PRS. Papers previously presented at local or regional meetings are acceptable only if the presentation was not published in an abstract supplement or book, in either print or online mediums.

*Surgical Practice Pearls: This category will offer speakers the chance to showcase practical and personal tips and tricks that they use to optimize their practice on a day-to-day basis. Presentations in this category will focus on concrete and practical things that a surgeon can immediately implement.

  3. Text

Create your abstract text in a word processing program prior to beginning your online submission. Use that program to check the word count. Abstract text (which does not include title or authors) is limited to 375 words or less. Abstract text should not contain title or author information; these are specified elsewhere in the submission process. Abstracts not conforming to the prescribed format will not be considered for presentation.

Abstract text must include the following*:

    • The concise purpose.
    • The methods and materials used.
    • Experience including number of cases and follow-up. Only final data should be submitted.
    • Summary of results.
    • Reasonable and understandable conclusions.

A maximum of 5 references will be accepted. All citations must be numbered and cited in numerical order in the text. Utilize AMA reference formatting style.

Please note that all information as you enter it will be used for publication. Please ensure correct spelling and consistency in format.

*Surgical Practice Pearls: For this category only, abstracts may be constructed and submitted in whatever format best communicates the author's information.

  4. Images/Tables

Figures and Tables are NOT allowed for submission. Please verify that all references to figures or tables have been REMOVED from your text. Abstracts that call out figures or tables may be edited or fully removed.

  5. Edits

Alterations can be made to any part of the abstract until the submission deadline. Simply log in with the numerical user id and password provided by the system. Once the deadline has past you will no longer have access to the system.

  6. Disclosures

Online disclosures will be collected for all authors. Disclosures are required for all authors. Your submission will not be considered for review if disclosures are missing for any authors.

All sources of funds supporting the work and a statement of financial interest, if any, must be included for each author, along with a list of all products, devices, drugs, etc., used in the manuscript. All manuscripts must have all of this information.

Each author must disclose at the time of submission any commercial associations or financial disclosures that might pose or create a conflict of interest with information presented in any submitted manuscript. Such associations include consultancies, stock ownership, or other equity interests, patent licensing arrangements, and payments for conducting or publicizing a study described in the manuscript.
